MRI PROCUREMENT CASE STUDY · ENGAGEMENT IN PROGRESS

MRI procurement case study: replacing an MRI inside an apartment building.

This MRI procurement case study documents how Mescura, acting as buying office with technical partner BMEC, turned a broad requirement into a ranked shortlist tested against the real building before price negotiation.

THE CHALLENGE

MRI procurement case study: the suite, not the brochure, decided what was possible.

The existing Neu-soft Super-open 0.23T could not be revamped, so replacement was the only route. The critical questions were floor load, helium venting, fringe field and removal of the old magnet. Each required engineering sign-off.

SIX-STEP PROCUREMENT WORKFLOW

Fit before price.

The case separates completed technical work from verification and commercial steps still to come.

  1. 01

    Define requirement

Site measured and Site Fit Report v2 recorded.

  2. 02

    Research suppliers

Four 1.5T systems shortlisted across new, inventory and refurbishment paths.

  3. 03

    Compare fit

Weight, helium venting and delivery risk used to rank options.

  4. 04

    Coordinate verification

BMEC inventory and vendor site-planning checks.

OPTIONS ANALYSIS

Two sealed, ventless magnets ranked first.

Every model still requires confirmation against the vendor's site planning guide. Figures not yet verified remain explicitly labelled as open.

#1

Philips Ingenia Ambition 1.5T X

BlueSeal magnet; about 7 L helium; typical magnet weight about 2,050 kg; no helium vent pipe needed.

Ranked first
#2

GE SIGNA Sprint with Freelium

Sealed Freelium design using under 1% of normal helium; no vent pipe needed; local support and pricing remain to be checked.

Ranked second
#3

Siemens MAGNETOM Essenza

Older 1.5T design; magnet about 3.5 t; venting still to confirm.

Alternative
#4

Siemens MAGNETOM Sola

Installed magnet about 3,982 kg; planning example makes early delivery-route planning important.

FINDING & NEXT STEPS

A shortlist recommendation, not a purchase recommendation.

The Philips Ingenia Ambition 1.5T X and GE SIGNA Sprint with Freelium fit best because their sealed magnets remove the helium-vent constraint. Site fit, price, availability in Egypt and local service remain unconfirmed.

  1. Check BMEC inventory and refurbishment routes.
  2. Check each model against its vendor site-planning guide.
  3. Confirm the old magnet's weight with Neu-soft and prepare removal planning.
  4. Report a final recommendation to Ogama, then negotiate commercial terms.
